Summer and a new game!
Hey GLC students!
I hope you're having a wonderful vacation. My vacation has been great so far. Mr. Peterson and I went to an excellent conference in Orlando, Florida on model schools and how to better improve the GLC.
Below is a website that we heard about called Free Rice. The basic premise of the site is that you play some games and answer questions. Every time you answer a question correct 10 grains of rice are donated to the hungry. This is a great opportunity to have fun, learn and help those who are less fortunate than us!
Enjoy the rest of your summer and remember wear sunscreen, get exercise and read!

Summer + Learning = Awesome!!!
Summer time
is finally here! Summer is a time for
relaxing, playing outside and swimming in the Goshen Ocean etc. However, summer is also a great time to
continue learning. Learning is more than
just being in class. Learning is going on vacations, reading new books,
exploring new places new ideas, new foods etc.
So I have come up with a few websites, books, events and field trips
that you can take advantage of that are not only fun and interesting but maybe,
just maybe, you might learn something as well.
Have a fabulous and safe summer! Run around, wear sunscreen and take
advantage of these suggestions.

Know your rights quiz!
Here is a little quiz I created to kick off our study of our rights as citizens of the United States of America. This quiz is designed to test your knowledge of your Constitutional rights.
When you first take the quiz the answers to your age and gender are filled in, however, you can change them. Also, when finished with the quiz underneath the results click where it says 'See the answers' to see the correct answers.
Good luck!

February Vacation!
Vacations are always a great time to relax and enjoy some free time. Vacations can also present great learning opportunities as well. Whether you start up a new book, do some creative writing or maybe even watch a show on Egyptian pyramids, the Civil War, the vikings etc. vacations are an excellent time to continue to learn and grow.
I plan on doing a lot of reading, both for school and pleasure, (I am currently reading The Hero with a Thousand Faces - a true classic - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hero_with_a_Thousand_Faces) as well as going to a musical and even fitting in some skiing.
So my advice for this vacation is to rest up, have fun and seek out learning opportunities - there are more of them out there than you would expect.

The GLC Geography Bee
It is that time of year again - Geography Bee time!
All middle school students competed in the 2nd Annual Goshen-Lempster Cooperative School Geography Bee this past Monday. Previous to that we had our Geography Week to get students pumped up and prepared for the Bee. This year our ten finalists from the middle school were Lizzy Bennett, Megan Howard, Ben van Paassen, Cody Turgeon, Darren O'Connor, Andre Maincent, Mike Tremblay, Cody Mileti, Chantal Watson and Ty Hebert.
The finalists battled during the Geography Bee, which was in the gym in front of grades 3-8, and came down to Megan Howard and Ben van Paassen in the Championship Round. Ben won on knowing that the Philippines consists of over 7,100 islands and is on the eastern edge of the South China Sea. Ben will now take a qualifying test to see if he makes it to the New Hampshire Geographic Bee, where that winner goes to Washington D. C. and the National Geographic Bee.
Congrats to all our contestants and good luck to Ben!

Happy New Year and here is to a learning filled 2012!
We've had a great start to the academic 2011-2012 school year and I am very excited to continue our learning in 2012. There are some exciting events coming up to kick off 2012 - the Geography Bee, learning about the NH Primary and the candidates as well as the diverse social studies subjects for each grade.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my holiday vacation and can't wait to get back into the classroom and work with all the great students of the GLC and to continue our learning!
